Tim was recently promoted to boatswains mate petty officer second class, otherwise known as BM2. This is the new patch he will wear on his sleeve (if it’s not on his sleeve already).
With the baby on the way, this couldn’t have come at a better time. When Holly and I were down in Florida last month, we visited Tim and Carrie’s apartment. All of us were hanging out in the freshly painted nursery, and I heard Tim refer to Carrie as the CO. I laughed.
This is how I feel about Holly, too.
Congratulate Tim for me. It’s something to be proud of.
Oh, I’ll pass it on Ruth. Thanks so much. I’m sure he’ll be pleased.
When he told me he was planning to join the military, my heart went into my throat, but he has really come into his own, in a way he couldn’t have anywhere else. It’s just amazing to see. When he stayed with me here in Port Seattle (his first duty station), it was plain to see that he loved what he was doing. What a lesson for me: you can’t know the path your kid should take. You can only just support him as he tries to find his way.
Those are words of wisdom, Tim.

Hey BM2! I am sorry I didn’t get this up sooner, but I have been crazy sick this past month or dealing with sick kids, which also can make you crazy. You worked hard for this promotion son. You deserve it!
